Somewhere in the desert festival /
An animated festivaltrailer on Planet Lindur

- the biggest party of the galaxy

by Amber White & Lennard Wasser

IDEA

The first thing which came to my mind was the festival burning man. This is our starting point. Creating a virtual festival, that would be awesome. Let´s do this!

VISION

Our vision was to create an aftermovie of a  festival on a different planet. We wanted to make it as spacy and futuristic as possible. There should be at least one live music floor as well as one electronic music floor with a dj, some toilets and a lot of spacy abstract artwork.

STORY

An aftermovie being introduced by an futuristic Elon Musk who just found a new planet in a galaxy called: „Rumorion“.
This planet is called Lindur and it is a pretty special planet because of the inhabitants which call themselves „Rindumi“.  This species decided to turn the whole planet into a festival and do nothing else than party... all the time.

Within the aftermovie the viewer gets an invitation link and  the possibility to buy a portal pass as it's not possible to use your own portal gun to join the joy.

ISSUES

During our progress, we´ve had that moment where we wanted to start rendering some frames to see some first video footage of our project. But we soon realised that we´ve got a big problem there..

It took “blender” about 10min to render just one single frame, even if the technical stuff were set to just a minimum quality. We figured out that one of the biggest problems would be solved very easily as it was just a case of saving the whole project into one folder with all assets that we´ve used so far. After doing that, it took us about 3min/frame. Way better, but still not the best time. We decided to change our materials to textures. So far we´ve used complex materials to give our grey 3d models some colour. But then we switched to 2k textures which reduced the rendering time to just 15sec per frame. Now we were able to start producing actual footage!
